Protest the Tax Scam!!

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask [NAME] to raise bloody hell over the Republican Tax Scam, which they are ramming through Congress.

Republicans, desperate for a “win” and in thrall to an ideology that fawns over the super-rich and disdains everyone else, are ignoring expert testimony, public opinion, due process and any shred of humanity to force a disastrous tax bill through Congress. Their bill will rob from working Americans to give to the already-wealthy and, in the process, blow a gigantic hole in the federal deficit – which they’ll then proceed to use to gut Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. This is an outrage and they must pay for it.

I’m asking [NAME] to use every public platform available to [him/her] from now through next November to call out the grievous harm the GOP is inflicting on working Americans and on our nation so that we may rally and defeat them decisively.

Make the Republicans Shut It Down

Hi, my name is _______ and I’m a constituent from zip code______ and a member of Indivisible. I’m calling to ask my [NAME] to be willing to let the Republicans shut down the government if they’re not willing to include critical legislation in the funding bill needed by December 22nd.

Democrats have neither the power nor the responsibility to keep the government open. They are not the majority party. But they must be willing to vote “no” on all efforts to pass any spending bills which don’t include key needs. Among these are protection for DREAMers, funding CHIP (the Childrens’ Health Insurance Program) and extending Medicaid funding for Puerto Rico. Each of these goals enjoys broad public support and, more importantly, is a humanitarian necessity. Without these being included, we must withhold our support and let the Republicans try to pass the spending bill on their own.

I need [NAME'S] firm commitment that [she/he] will stand up for what’s right and will only vote for the spending bill if it includes these key needs. And I will remember that vote come the next election.

Our Actions:

  • First, we must demand: No Jones, No Vote! Doug Jones was elected to Senate by the people of Alabama. He should be present to vote on a tax bill that will affect his constituents.

  • The fight will come down to only a few senators and we need to apply pressure there. Use Indivisible's peer-to-peer calling service to reach out to progressive constituents in target states to continue to push constituent pressure in the states that matter. Here is a link sign up to make calls.

Republicans are desperate to pass the tax bill before going home for the holidays. The Senate jammed the bill through at 2am by a 51-49 completely partisan vote. Why do we need to fight? Here are some of the ramifications of this bill becoming law:
